AONE Diversity in Health Care Organizations Toolkit Call for Exemplars
The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), the premier organization and voice for nursing leadership, is committed to advocating for and achieving diversity within the community of nurse leaders and in the workplace environment. The organizational mission, vision and strategic direction of AONE recognize that the success of nursing leadership is dependent on reflecting the diversity of the communities nurses serve.
It is the position of AONE that diversity is one of the essential building blocks of a healthful practice/work environment. To support health care organizations in the development of their initiatives that support diversity, AONE published the AONE Guiding Principles for Diversity in Health Care Organizations in 2007.
To provide further support to the field, the 2008 AONE Diversity Council has been charged with creating a toolkit that provides resources, case studies, and best practices related to diversity. The toolkit will be published on the AONE website and will be available as an AONE member benefit.
To build this toolkit, AONE is seeking submission for the following:
- Case studies that reflect the successful implementation of cultural competencies in a hospital or health care organization.
- Policy statements that support diversity initiatives currently implemented in a hospital or health care organization.
- Educational material that are utilized to support diversity training.
- Measurement standards or assessment tools related to diversity initiatives.
- Examples of components of job descriptions and/or performance measures that embrace or promote diversity.
- Evidence-based practice/research that supports diversity.
- Examples of recruitment/retention plans developed and implemented to support diversity efforts.
- Statements of organizational values that address cultural sensitivity and diversity.
