Monitor and improve clinical supplies available for patient care to have the right supplies available to maintain routine and safe care delivery. Merged supplies into one universal formulary. Developed a mechanism for review and approval of new supply requests. Involved in the first level rapid response team when defects emerge that have a potential negative impact on safe care delivery. |
| Outcome |
Consolidated several large and small purchase items. There has been minimal safety issues related to product use. An organized, standardized, formulary that is easy to search and update was developed. Significant cost savings. Decreased number of special orders that are outside of the distribution system. Decision support based on appropriate stakeholder review, clinical pilots, and justification based on clinical outcomes. Improved user satisfaction. New items reviewed in a timely manner. Increased efficiency of support staff in meeting distribution needs. No products implemented without proper clinical and budgetary approval and staff educated to the change. Efficient and timely mechanism in place to respond to recalls and other supply defects. |
