Introduction
It is abundantly clear that nursing leadership is crucial in changing the way health care is delivered.  It is also abundantly clear that patient safety issues are a driving force in health care delivery systems nationwide.  The Institute of Medicine estimated that medical mistakes may result in as many as 98,000 deaths and cost as much as $29 billion dollars annually (2000).  Stories about nurse leaders' pivotal role in patient safety were collected nationally. We hope that you are impacted by these bold nursing stories that have advanced patient safety.
