Improv for Nurse Leaders
Eric Francque, Marketing Communications Manager, AONE; former member of the Chicago-based Second City National Touring Company
Did you know that improvisers generally think better on their feet, are more adept at presenting in front of others, and are considered stronger collaborators by their peers?
This highly interactive session will outline the basic tenets of improvisation including thinking on your feet, fostering a “group mind” approach to collaboration, and increasing basic presentation skills. Participants will be broken into groups and will engage in ice-breaking physical warm ups, classic improv games and laughter-inducing character exercises. Designed and geared toward nurse leaders of all levels, attendees will create role plays on workplace issues such as staffing shortages, conflict resolution and employee engagement. Participants will then engage in discussion relative to improvisation as a learning innovation and will take away practical exercises to utilize in their organizations.
Money Talks: Finance and Business Skills for Nurse Managers
Sheila Kempf, RN, PhD, Sr. Vice President, Patient Care Services
Chief Nursing Officer, Bristol Hospital; Susan Gergely, MBA, Chief Operating Officer, AONE
Today’s health care environment requires that nurse managers have a solid knowledge of finance and business skills. This workshop will focus on three aspects related to finance and business: finance and budget knowledge, building a business case and project management. Equipped with knowledge and skill in these three areas, nurse managers will be better prepared to use financial data to promote quality care and influence change while staying aligned with organizational fiscal and strategic goals.
Maintaining Parity at the Executive Level in the New Era of Value Based Care
Nancy Formella, Kristopher Goetz, Kristin Ramsey
Executive leadership collaboration is imperative as organizations position themselves for value based care. It requires a shift for the CNO to expand into new leadership behaviors and language that keep the nurse as an essential part of the decision making team of the future. This session will discuss the current state of executive nursing leadership and where we need to go, from the perspective of a nurse CEO. An in depth look at a successful model of CFO and nurse executives working together will demonstrate the value of enhancing leadership behaviors, partnerships and communication to create a synergistic team where the nurse executive is a critical partner.
