View a roster of 2013 AONE Nurse Manager Fellows.

Overview
The AONE Nurse Manager Fellowship is a year-long professional development program designed to provide an in-depth environment of learning. The first of its kind, the fellowship program fills a void that currently exists in the education and development of the nurse manager. Participants strengthen their current skills, acquire new competencies and continue the life-long learning needed for the next generation of successful nurse leaders.

The goal of the Nurse Manager Fellowship program is to ensure the future vitality of nursing leadership by:

  • meeting practice needs of the nurse manager: knowledge, competency acquisition, and enhanced experiential learning.
  • assuring that nurse leaders are perceived as valuable members of management and leadership teams and
  • supporting the key aspects of succession planning

The fellowship incorporates elements of the AONE Nurse Manager Learning Domain Framework. Faculty is made up of renowned nurse leaders and experts in nursing leadership and management who focus on a curriculum built upon the Framework. A key component of the fellowship program is the completion of a capstone project by each fellow. The individual project focuses on an aspect of the learning framework—managing the business, leading the people, or creating the leader within. Each project is intended to benefit the sponsoring organization by providing a measurable financial gain that will offset the program’s tuition fee and expenses. The fellows are required to provide mid-year and final reports to their respective executives and an electronic summary to their learning community of fellows.

  • Fellowship participants engage in a variety of learning modalities, including:
  • Fellowship retreats—four face-to-face sessions during the course of the fellowship year;
  • Experiential learning—application of classroom learning in the workplace;
  • Virtual learning communities—year-round electronic communication with each other and expert faculty;
  • Attendance at nationally known leadership meetings: The AONE Annual Meeting and the AHA Health Forum Leadership Summit.
