Education

Nursing education and research are the cornerstones of AONE and serve to fulfill its mission of shaping health care through innovative and expert nursing leadership. AONE's Strategic Plan guides the development of educational priorities for programs and content throughout the year. These priorities are intended to guide AONE's efforts to develop and promote education and research projects that further AONE’s overall strategic objectives.

Design of Future Patient Care Delivery Systems
We recognize that nurse leaders are active leaders in the design, implementation and evaluation of future patient care delivery systems that effectively leverage human, financial and technological resources to produce high-quality, safe and patient-centered healthcare.

AONE focuses its educational activities to support this strategic goal in the following areas:

  • New technology, patient safety and work environments that support strategies for improvements crucial to the success of the delivery system.
  • The design and implementation of patient care delivery systems that are congruent with the diversity of health belief systems within local communities and their patient populations.
  • The design and implementation of shared governance/shared decision-making models.
    The AONE Guiding Principles that support new patient care delivery models.

Healthful Practice Environments
AONE and its members are national leaders in creating positive and healthful practice environments.

AONE supports this strategic goal by providing education in the following areas:

  • Practice environments that attract and retain nurses.
  • Programs that promote professional growth and continuous learning, including mentoring of staff nurses and nursing leaders.
  • Practice environments that are based on the Nursing Organization Alliance (NOA).
  • Principles and Elements of a Healthful Practice/Work Environment.
  • The AONE Guiding Principles for Future Patient Care Delivery Systems for health environments that encompass judiciously securing and using technology and resources, developing provider and patient safety guidelines and promoting diversity in the workforce.
  • The design, implementation and evaluation of healthful practice environments.
  • The design and implementation of shared governance/shared decision-making models.
