AONE Launches New Foundation to Fulfill Previous Role of AONE Institute

Chicago, IL (September 24, 2010) — The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) is proud to announce the establishment of the AONE Foundation for Nursing Leadership Research & Education (AONE Foundation), which will fulfill the previous role of the AONE Institute for Nursing Leadership Research & Education (AONE Institute). The AONE Institute was founded in 1999 and was conducted as an activity of the Health Research & Education Trust. The AONE Foundation will continue supporting 501(c)(3) activities of AONE, including annual seed grants to fund nursing research projects in the areas of patient safety, workforce, work environment, evidence-based management practices, and leadership development, as well as the AONE Foundation Mentor Award, honoring a nurse in executive practice who has been exemplary in supporting the professional development of his/her colleagues.&
We are delighted to see the work of the AONE Institute carry forward under the AONE Foundation,” said Pamela Thompson, RN, MA, CENP, FAAN, AONE chief executive officer and American Hospital Association (AHA) senior vice president for nursing. “The AONE Foundation will continue to add to the knowledge and evidence regarding the practice and impact of effective nursing leadership.
The AONE Foundation will accomplish its mission through fundraising support from individuals, foundations and corporations. Patricia Conway-Morana, MAd, RNC, NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE, chief nurse executive at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA, has been named the chair of the AONE Foundation Board of Directors.
The formation of the AONE Foundation is a statement of the commitment AONE has to advance health care through research that supports evidence based leadership, and to translate that research into practice that supports patient care, workforce development and health policy,” said Conway-Morana.
