Washington, DC (April 15, 2011) - This week, the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) announced its new AONE Innovation in Technology Award during their 44th Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Diego, CA. Beginning in 2012, the award will be presented annually to an outstanding nurse leader who demonstrates innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship in the implementation and adoption of technology in their organization.  The award will recognize pioneering approaches to working with the ever-increasing number of tools and resources designed to make patient care more efficient.  With a focus on application and not products, this award also aligns with AONE’s efforts to support the design, implementation and evaluation of future patient care delivery systems that effectively leverage technological resources.

This is about the human side of technology, not new devices and EHRs, but employing technology to improve patient care and not interfering or burdening the caregiver. The award will showcase the innovative approaches nurse leaders employ, and publicly recognize nursing leadership’s ability to transform patient care delivery by driving decisions about technology purchases and application that impact patient care,†said AONE Board member and 2011 AONE technology committee co-chair Dawn Straub, MSN, RN, NEA-BC.

AONE industry partner CISCO Systems announced their three-year support of this award during the AONE Annual Meeting. AONE members will be eligible to be nominated for the AONE Innovation in Technology Award beginning  October 2011, and the first recipient will be announced at the AONE 45th Annual Meeting and Exposition in April 2012. For more information about submitting an application, interested candidates should contact Jessi Copeland at 202-626-2309 or jcopeland@aha.org.
