AONE embraces nurse leaders through all levels of their career and all health care organizations. Common AONE member titles include:
- chief nursing officer/chief nurse executives
- vice presidents of nursing and patient care services
- directors of nursing
- directors of emergency services, critical care services and other clinical departments
- directors of professional practice
- nurse managers
- nurse consultants
- aspiring nurse leaders
- deans and faculty in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs
- and many other nursing leadership professionals
Full Members of AONE are Registered Nurses (RN). This includes nurses in all health care environments who hold, aspire to hold, or function in a leadership role. All RNs are eligible for membership.
Student Members of AONE are full time, pre-licensure nursing students.
Affiliate Members of AONE are not Registered Nurses but support the mission and vision of AONE. The affiliate members’ purposes, goals and initiatives must be consistent with and supportive of AONE's purposes, goals and initiatives. Affiliate memberships may require approval by AONE staff.
Honorary Members of AONE are conferred for life upon the recommendation and action by the AONE Board of Directors.
International Members of AONE are professional nurse leaders or aspiring nurse leaders who have RN licensure, or equivalent, in a country other than the United States and permanently reside outside of the United States. Fees for international membership vary by country and are determined on a sliding scale anchored in the World Bank classification based on per capita income. Retired Members of AONE are any Full AONE members who have maintained AONE membership for a period of five consecutive years, are retired and no longer employed or self-employed.
