The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) announced today the recipients of its 2015 recognition awards, which highlight AONE members and a state chapter who demonstrated the "best of the best" in leadership practice, and whose work sets an example for every nurse leader. The recipients will be honored this week during the AONE’s Annual Meeting in Phoenix.

The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) will present its 2015 Honorary Member Award to Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association (AHA), for his contributions to health care and support of AONE’s mission to shape health care through innovative and expert nursing leadership. Umbdenstock will be honored during AONE’s Annual Meeting in Phoenix on April 16, 2015.

The American Organization of Nurse Executives is pleased to be a founding member of the Nurses on Boards Coalition, a group of national nursing organizations working together to increase nurses’ presence on corporate and non-profit health-related boards of directors throughout the country. “Without a nurse trustee, boards lack an authority on the patient experience, quality and safety, and the largest part of the hospital workforce,” Trustee magazine, a publication of the American Hospital Association, wrote recently.

The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) announced today that Maureen Swick, RN, MSN, PhD, NEA-BC, senior vice president and chief nurse executive at Inova Health System, Falls Church Va., was elected 2015 president-elect of the AONE Board of Directors. Swick will serve as president-elect for a one-year term beginning January 1, 2015 and will become AONE president serving a one-year term beginning January 1, 2016. As president, Swick will lead a membership organization of more than 8,700 nurse leaders whose strategic focus is excellence in nursing leadership.
