John Welton RN, PhD, is the recipient of the AONE Foundation for Nursing Leadership Research and Education’s 2012 Nurse Researcher Award. This award recognizes a nurse researcher who has made significant contributions to nursing research and is recognized by the broader nursing community as an outstanding nurse researcher. Dr. Welton will be honored at an award presentation during the AONE 45th Annual Meeting in Boston on March 24, 2012, where he will also deliver the annual AONE Foundation Lecture, Value-Based Nursing.

Michelle Janney, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, has been elected 2012 AONE president-elect of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) Board of Directors. Janney is the senior vice president and Wood-Prince Family chief nurse executive at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago where she has worked since 2002.

This week, the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) announced its new AONE Innovation in Technology Award during their 44th Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Diego, CA. Beginning in 2012, the award will be presented annually to an outstanding nurse leader who demonstrates innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship in the implementation and adoption of technology in their organization. The award will recognize pioneering approaches to working with the ever-increasing number of tools and resources designed to make patient care more efficient. With a focus on application and not products, this award also aligns with AONEâ€™s efforts to support the design, implementation and evaluation of future patient care delivery systems that effectively leverage technological resources.

Donna E. Shalala, PhD, former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), is the recipient of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) 2011 Honorary Member Award. This award recognizes a person who has made a noteworthy contribution to the health care field and to nursing leadership practice, and who has supported the mission of AONE through work, research or service to the health care community at large. Dr. Shalala will be honored at an award presentation during the AONE 44th Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Diego on April 15, 2011.
