    A year ago when I selected Israel as AONE’s academic trip abroad, I had no idea what to expect, nor that my role at AONE at the time would be changing from president to CEO. By selecting Israel, I hoped the AONE delegation, led by AONE Board President Joan Shinkus Clark, could return with knowledge of several areas critical for US nurse leaders.

    The House this week approved two bills advocated by nursing organizations: the Title VII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (HR 2713) and the Improving Access to Maternity Care Act (HR 1209). HR 2713 would reauthorize current federal nursing workforce programs by continuing support for nursing education at all levels, providing loan repayment and incentives for nurses who work in underserved areas or as faculty and providing support for nurses who care for the aging population.

    The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) membership elected Bob Dent, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE, senior vice president, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas, as the 2017 president-elect of the AONE Board of Directors. Dent will assume the presidency January 1, 2018, leading the national membership organization whose strategic focus is excellence in nursing leadership.
